LSS have recently been involved in 2 large exhibitions in the RDS in Dublin. First there was the Toys 4 Big Boys exhibition, the well known gadget and luxury show that attracts as many ladies as men now (which is evident from the new section upstairs dedicated to women and all things pink). Then there was the Event Tech show last week aimed at our industry and our market. In a way these 2 shows are almost polar opposites, in the first show we were hoping for impulse purchases from visitors to the show who would never usually be LSS customers, all the while hoping some publicans or others from our core business might also visit the show and see us, raising our profile. The second show was dedicated to our industry, other industry professionals, installation companies, events companies etc etc.

For us it was not necessarily about selling lots of equipment at either show (but it would have been nice as both cost us considerable amounts). Both shows were as much about gaining exposure and increasing awareness of our brand and those of our suppliers as it was about selling equipment. It is however very strange how such an exercise can appear fruitless but wind up being very very beneficial.

During the first of our 2 shows it was felt perhaps we had misjudged the market and perhaps impulse buys were just not going to happen in the current climate. Having reached about 50% of our sales projection for the event, the doors closed and the show was over. For the second event we sold nothing, got plenty of inquiries and leads but no confirmed orders or sales, soul destroying considering the amount of work that went into both. However, all was not lost. Over the last number of days we have been getting calls, emails and messages asking “were you the guys with the lasers”, “Did you have that stupid big snow machine”, “were you the guys with the DJ gear” and so on. So we have dug deep, we have replied to every email, we have answered every phone call and now it appears both shows will eventually be profitable. From a once dark and dreary place sunrays are shining and orders are coming in. Lasers, Skytrackers, Snow machines and more all being sold, hired, leased and whatever else for venues, events and of course Christmas.

So, it has proven to us that trade shows, events and hard work all increase your exposure, all create an interest in you and your products and will ultimately lead to greater sales, even if it is over a longer time period, so, bring on February 2010 in the RDS!
